*U-Factor measures the rate of heat transfer.  The lower the U-Factor, the better the product insulates. U-Factor ratings for windows generally fall between 0.20 and 0.50.

**Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) measures the proportion of solar energy penetration.  A low SHGC means better shielding from the sun, usually beneficial since it helps keep a home or building cooler in the summer.  (NOTE: Homes designed by the architect for passive solar heating will want high SHGC glass on the southern windows.)  SHGC ratings for windows generally fall between 0.18 and 0.61.
